Hercampuri
is native of the Peruvian Andes in high altitudes between 3500 to
4300 metres above sea level. It is a small flowery plant up to 15
cm in height. The word Hjircanpureek, from the quenchua "who
walks from village to village", refers to the medicine person
who travelled with medicinal herbs to treat the sick

traditional uses of Hercampuri include stomach, liver, and gallbladder
conditions as well as ulcers, gastritis, obesity, high cholesterol
and diabetes. Most probably Hercampuri acts as a cholagogic agent
(it facilitates the secretion of bile), choleretic (secretion and
excretion of bile), hypocholesterolemic (reduces cholesterol), diuretic
(increases the excretion of urine). |
According to scientists from San
Marcos University in Peru (Rojas L., 1999), the brew of the whole
Gentianella alborosea (hercampuri) pulverized plant produces a
body weight decrease in rats. The larger the dose, the greater
the weight loss. It was also determined that the brew of the whole
pulverized plant produces a moderate diuresis at a dose of 6 mg/kg
BW. This has been confirmed with the histological changes found
after the administration of doses that were three, six and nine
times the diuretic dose in the renal tissue
